Haircuts and good luck?

March 10, 2008

Hi!

Yesterday was the 2nd of February, according to the Chinese calendar, and Tomas heard from some students that according to traditional Chinese beliefs (superstitions), people should get haircuts on that day, because if they do, it will bring them good luck.

He needed a haircut anyways, so he went and go one.

Could that be why we have had such a good day with good news and luck?

First of all, maybe I told you that last week, my brother decided to come to China to visit us. He will be here in April already! Then, today we got some more great news: my dad booked a ticket to China as well!!! He will come in November, however, and meet Tomas' parents who will come at the same time. We are very excited to show them around!

Then our printer broke. Knowing how fast things usually get done in China, we were quite concerned that after we brought it in to our contact person to ask them to try to get it fixed, that we would never see it again. Today, however, seemed certainly to be our lucky day, because just a few hours later, it was returned to us, fixed!

Then Tomas talked with our boss at Amity, so now we are pretty sure where we are going next year! It is not totally decided yet between Amity and the school, but Amity would like to place us in Longzhou, where we have a friend right now (and who will be moving back home this summer). Our friend really likes the place. It is about as far south as it is possible to go in China! (check a map) It is only 1.5 hours from the border to Vietnam!!!

So, for us it has been a big day with lots of information! We really hope we will end up in Longzhou, because we have heard good things about it. However, it is very far south, and we expect to be hot! But, we are also looking forward to lots of new experiences there.

Just wanted to keep you informed! Take care! Keep in touch please!

Love,
Rachel & Tomas
